A 14-year-old youth was found dead only a few days following being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a dead baby during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's parents discovered his remains in his room at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Start

The inquest learned how his parent got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if Kai was her child. The message added: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, asserting her infant's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later concluded the supposed break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed stolen remains attracted online responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She explained that her son had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views really mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at home, but no evidence was found. He was transported to a police station and later released under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had failed to contacted the family by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her son told her he had entered the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could use the bathroom whenever he needed, but denied taking anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that one 19-year-old encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he died, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his worries", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Reaction

The hearing received testimony from school staff at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some boys talking that the student had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang Kai's parents' telephone and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings heard his family said they did not receive that communication.

Official Finding

Senior coroner told the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the medium of social media.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and following his interview he was released while investigations continued."

The coroner concluded: "Exists no evidence that the acts or failures of any agency caused or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is impossible to determine his purpose."
